While the rest of the country is tucking Kleenex in their cracks to soak up excess moisture, I am stuck in the tepid climate of the Pacific Northwest. The only opportunity I’ve had this summer to blot my own danger zone was thwarted. Closing ceremonies of Vacation Bible School conflicted with the premiere of Magic Mike.
We are starting week 3 of summer break and have yet to settle into a routine. Vacation Bible Camp was the only activity that provided respite from the constant bickering, complaints of boredom, and requests for Otter Pops in 60 degree weather. Though I had to postpone witnessing Channing Tatum’s signature butt claps for another week, I suppose my children come first. Sadly, though, it’s over.
Our usual summer activities have been severely limited by lousy weather. There are only so many trips to the library the kids are willing to endure. When left to their own devices to come up with an entertainment action plan, this is what they do:
He totally went head first. Then he repeated the process until he decided it kind of hurt. I let him too. The most dangerous part of the dumpster diving was what he discovered at the bottom of the recycle bin. I had quietly culled 85% of the crap the preschool sent home on the last day – he’s my 3rd kid and I’m not a hoarder. He was upset I discarded so many of his treasures and even ratted me out to Maren for throwing away her masterpieces out too.
Since dumpster diving isn’t going to entertain them all summer, I’m really hoping the weather climbs past 70 in time for our annual camping trip. Lousy weather while camping is a deal breaker for me. We have a very small travel trailer (that was gifted to us by our in-laws, so I am grateful), but I am certain I would eat a kid if I had to spend any amount of time inside with mine.
I probably shouldn’t complain when I know many of you live in an area where your blood is about to boil. I’m curious, though, do you prefer hot or cool weather?
